Withdrawn (Discontinued) Prize Bonds
In the past, Prize Bonds with denominations of Rs. 7500, Rs. 15000, Rs. 25000, and Rs. 40000 were offered as part of regular draws. However, the government of Pakistan has discontinued these bonds in response to concerns raised by the Financial Action Task Force regarding terror financing and money laundering.
The State Bank of Pakistan imposed a ban on Rs. 40000 Prize Bonds in June 2019, followed by a ban on Rs. 25000 Prize Bonds in December 2020. In April 2021, the ban was extended to Rs. 7500 and Rs. 15000 Prize Bonds. However, the Federal Government has now provided an opportunity once again for the public to redeem/encash the withdrawn Prize Bonds of Rs. 7500, 15000, 25000, and 40000 by June 30, 2023.
Investors who are somehow still holding these discontinued prize bonds have various options for encashment or exchange. They can either cash in the bonds at face value or switch them to Premium Prize Bonds of Rs. 25,000 and/or Rs. 40,000 (Registered). Also, they can choose to swap them for Special Savings Certificates (SSC) or Defence Savings Certificates (DSC).
